Canadians are marking Remembrance Day with events taking place across the country honouring veterans who served in war and those who sacrificed their lives serving the nation.

Canada’s troops came home in 2014, and when Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government was elected in 2015, the prime minister promised a return to Canada’s role in peacekeeping. That promise, however, resulted in only one new operation: a 30-person contingent serving in the African country of Mali. That mission lasted five years, ending in 2023.

The military bugle call ‘The Last Post’ was played during a Remembrance Day ceremony in Ottawa, followed by a moment of silence honouring Canada’s fallen heroes.
