MANILA: Three new cases of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) were recorded in the country, bringing the count to 18, Department of Health (DOH) chief Teodoro Herbosa said on Monday (Sept 16).

The Philippine Department of Health (DOH) on September 16 announced three additional cases of monkeypox (mpox), bringing the total confirmed cases across the country this year to 18.

Five of the 18 patients have recovered, and no patient has died from the infectious viral disease, he said, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Department of Health on Friday, September 13, clarified that Mpox vaccines are not yet legally available in the Philippines and warned the public against availing vaccines from unauthorized sources.

Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa said five of the 18 infected patients “have recovered and released from isolation.” The 11 other cases are undergoing home isolation. “What's good is, that all the 18 cases we picked up have not yet spread the virus to others,” Herbosa said.

The Philippines’ Department of Health on September 9 reported four new cases of monkeypox, raising the total number of infections in the country to 23 since July 2022.
