KARNAL: The Chhath Puja began with fervour in Karnal, Haryana on Tuesday, with devotees across the city gearing up for the four-day-long celebrations in honour of Chhathi Maiya and the Sun God.

Chhath Puja, a revered festival primarily celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh, marks the worship of the Sun God (Surya) and his consort, Chhathi Maiya. The festival spans four days, each with its own significance and rituals.

The day of Nahay Khay is followed by Kharna, which is day 2 of the festival and falls on Panchami Tithi; thereafter it's Chhath Puja on Shashthi, and concludes with Usha Arghya on Saptami Tithi. The festivities will conclude on November 8, 2024.

The fourth and final day of the celebration is called Usha Arghya or Parana Day. On this day, offer water (arghya) to the rising sun and end the fast after taking prasad.
