Hundreds of thousands of Duke Energy customers in the Carolinas were still without power Wednesday in the wake of Hurricane Helene, which caused severe flooding and destruction in parts of the region.

Duke Energy expects to restore most of those remaining outages by Friday night, though some of the hardest hit regions are still inaccessible.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Duke Energy provided an update on Thursday, Oct. 3 about its efforts to restore power in North and South Carolina after the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene. The energy company said 90% of customers in North and South Carolina will have power restored by Friday, Oct. 4.

As Hurricane Helene tore through Western North Carolina with high winds and heavy, steady rainfall, the power outages and the road closures began.

Energy providers offer updates on power restoration across the Upstate after the effects of Hurricane Helene hit early on Friday, Sept. 27.

Duke Energy Florida reported about 29,000 Pinellas County customers without power as of 5:15 p.m. And it might be a while before that number approaches zero. While Duke has said it’s working to restore power to homes and businesses that are structurally sound, the hardest-hit parts of the Pinellas beaches could endure outages well into October.

Duke Energy said they restored nearly 1.6 million customer outages in the Carolinas following Helene and expect to restore power to those with remaining outages by Friday night.

Duke Energy Corp. (NYSE: DUK) is making progress in its efforts to restore power to customers in the Carolinas in the wake of Hurricane Helene. The Charlotte-based utility said it still has 455,000 customers there without power after the devastating storm.

Duke Energy staged 8,000 crew members to respond to outages ahead of the storm, with about 4,000 in the Villages that can respond around Tampa Bay or further north, as needed. Helene is expected to pass Tampa Bay on Thursday afternoon and make landfall in the Big Bend region by the evening.
