Ten others were injured in the shooting in the Israeli city of Beersheba, which happened as events marking the 7 October attacks began around the world.

Israeli claims that its soldiers began ground operations inside southern Lebanon "are false," Hezbollah said in a Tuesday statement. "No direct ground clashes have yet taken place between the resistance fighters and the occupation forces," the group said, referring to Israeli troops.

A day before it marks a year since the deadly Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas, Israel is locked into a multi-front war with no clear end, sending troops back to northern Gaza and keeping up intense aerial attacks and a limited ground maneuver in Lebanon.
