All six of New York's American Freight furniture stores will be closing as a result of its parent company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, the company announced earlier this week. New York isn't the only state affected though as Ohio-based Franchise Group Inc.

A furniture and appliance retailer is closing a handful of local stores, and several more around the state. A furniture and appliance retailer with a strong presence in Alabama is closing for business.

American Freight has 10 locations in Alabama: three in Birmingham, Morrow Road, Veterans Memorial Drive and Palisades Blvd; Dothan at Ross Clark Circle; Helena at Highway 52; Huntsville at North Memorial Parkway; Mobile at Moffett Road; Montgomery at North Eastern Blvd.; Tuscaloosa at McFarland Blvd and Prattville at East Main Street.

American Freight, a discount furniture and appliance retailer with more than 328 locations across 41 states, including California, is permanently closing all of its stores as its parent company navigates bankruptcy.

American Freight, a 30-year-old business, is part of Delaware-based Franchise Group Inc.’s holdings. The closure of the furniture and appliance chain is part of the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization plan announced this week.
