Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India condemned violent protests that erupted in a Canadian city over the weekend as the conflict between their two countries appears to be spilling over into the streets of the Great White North.

The prime ministers of India and Canada condemned violence that broke out on Sunday at a Hindu temple near Toronto at a time of escalating diplomatic tensions between the countries. Videos posted on social media appeared to show people hitting each other with flagpoles and throwing punches in the Toronto suburb of Brampton.

Upholding the right to practice religion "freely and safely", Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the violence at a Hindu temple near Toronto "unacceptable".
