Jamaica Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced Tuesday that his nation’s long-awaited participation in the largely U.S.-funded Multinational Security Support mission in Haiti is ready to begin.

CHRISTIANA, Manchester — Opposition spokesman on national security Senator Peter Bunting says the 24-member squad which departed Jamaica on Thursday for Haiti is inadequate and merely “tokenism”.

Jamaica.- The Jamaican government announced it will send 24 troops to join a Kenyan-led multinational security force in Haiti. Prime Minister Andrew Holness revealed that the contingent, consisting of 20 members from the Jamaica Defence Force and four from the Jamaica Constabulary Force,

The mission is being led by Kenya, which is so far the only country to have deployed to Haiti with 400 police officers, out of a total pledge of 1,000. Alongside Kenya's support for the mission, Benin, Jamaica, the Bahamas and Belize have also promised to send at least 2,900 troops.

Jamaica will begin its participation in the multinational security support mission in Haiti with the deployment of 24 personnel Thursday, September 12 to provide command, planning and logistics support.

Problems are being addressed, and there’s a tremendous willingness on the part of donors to meet more regularly,. Canada’s ambassador Robert Rae said.
