Southwest Airlines has named Rakesh Gangwal as the independent chair of the board of directors. Gangwal, an airline executive and entrepreneur, has been a member of the Southwest Airlines board of directors since July 8.

Indian billionaire and IndiGo co-founder Rakesh Gangwal has been appointed Chairman of Southwest Airlines. Gangwal, who recently invested USD 108 million in Southwest, takes the helm following the airline's settlement with Elliott Investment Management.
