NASCAR is unveiling its first electric racecar Saturday in Chicago. It doesn’t thunder when the race grand marshal says “drivers, start your engines,” it hums.

NASCAR racing is all about loud, fast cars burning gas and rubber around a track. But on Saturday, NASCAR unveiled something different: an all-electric SUV that has twice as much horsepower as any of their current gas guzzlers.

NASCAR isn’t the place you’d expect to find a new electric vehicle make its debut, but the racing car company, on Sunday, threw the automotive world a curve ball, unveiling an electric stock car that boats twice the horsepower of the cars in its races.
